UAP DISTRICT A-4 STAGES SUCCESSFUL 8TH DISTRICT OLYMPIAD

Contributed by Mike Tomeldan

The chapters of UAP District A-4 took time off from their busy schedules to take part in the 8th UAP District A-4 Olympiad held last November 15, 2003 at the Celebrity Sports Club in Quezon City. The District Olympiad opened at 8:30 a.m. with the parade of participants from the five chapters of UAP District A-4. The five delegations were led by Chapter Presidents Joy Arcenas of Diliman Chapter, Art Rilveria of Elliptical Chapter, Romy Dizon of Hilaga Chapter, Andy Reformado of New Manila Chapter, and Don Magcale of Nova Central Chapter. The opening ceremony was formally opened by District Director Michael V. Tomeldan and was graced by the presence of UAP VP for Area A Edric Marco C. Florentino who gave the opening remarks.

The UAP Diliman Chapter won the overall Championship as it garnered championships in basketball, volleyball, and darts. The Elliptical Chapter, which was the previous overall Champion finished first runner-up this year. The Elliptical Chapter’s dreaded billiards team successfully retained its championship in the billiards event by overwhelming the competition. The New Manila Chapter, which finished second runner-up, dominated the mixed doubles badminton event and the bowling event. The Nova Central Chapter proved to be a revelation this year by winning the championship in the chess event by edging the favored and perennial champions Elliptical Chapter.

The competitive sports event culminated with the awarding ceremonies in the evening at the Sitio Victoria Restaurant also at the Celebrity Sports Club. As expected, this year’s District A-4 Olympiad again brought out the best in terms of athletics, sportsmanship, character, and fun.
