The United Architects of the Philippines Diliman Chapter held its 36th Anniversary and Induction Ball on July 25, 2015 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Club Filipino in San Juan City.

In his valedictory address, past Chapter President Nap Ibañez narrated how he got a morale boost when - after a sleepless session working on the chapter bid books, all tired and pressured - he asked a member of the executive committee why she chose Diliman, whether it was because of her friends or professors, and she simply replied “Dahil gusto ko.”

He also said that he has “seen various scenarios, from high times where members and officers participation was at its peak, and needy times, where members participation needs to be drummed up” when he and his board “needed to entice members to come back, to become active, and to take on the mantle of leadership in the future.”

He added that “with the internet, there were instances during my term, that there was noise generation, but there was no apparent reaction, save for “seens” in Facebook. But far from being disheartened, we know, we the outgoing officers, that our voice, and our noise was heard, appreciated, and noted. We are content in knowing that we became a part of a tradition, and that others will follow, and will continue this tradition.”

For her part Chapter President Becca Rellosa said “we share an unbounded optimism in our continued impact and relevance, in shaping and enriching the lives of countless people, across societal and professional borders, through our passion for architecture.”

“Let us take this as an opportunity, to solidify old friendships and foster new ones. I had been a beneficiary of these friendships, and I can say that such had a profound effect on my life. I am proud and grateful for being a member of our chapter, and I can say that it has provided me countless opportunities to grow through service. It has been, and continues to be a big part of my life, professionally and personally.”

Saying that “we are the catalysts for the change we want to see in our environment,” she enjoined the members make sure that “our actions should always translate to more reliable products and services, better access to supplies and essential items, and improvement of basic services, which will ultimately lead to national growth.”

“As professionals, we should be committed to being good citizens by being excellent at what we do, and show the world that we are responsible and competent designers of our civilization.”

She also encouraged the members to keep calm and carry on when “some people around you are skeptical of what you try to do, as long as your conscience dictates to you that what you are doing is ethical; when no one seems to believe in you, but you have a strong vision in your mind and believe in your heart that lives will be better because of your work.” She added that “when it seems like our goals are beyond reach, strive to be motivated.”

The chapter’s Executive Committee for the Fiscal Year 2015-2016 are Becca Rellosa (President), Camille Jusi (Vice President for Programs and Planning), Franco Vicente (Vice President for Operations), Mark Lingan (Secretary), Gio Santaromana (Treasurer), Ailou Torres (Auditor); Directors Gelo Sales (Business Development), Irwin Dizon (Membership), Miko Manalo (Continuing Professional Development), Rebecca Cantalejo (Sports), Nadine Dizon-Reyes (Accessibility), and Niño Ricardo (Secretariat).
