Architects from all over Mindanao gathered at the world-class Pearl Farm Resort in the Island Garden City of Samal for the First Conference of Mindanao Architects last October 23 to 24, 2009. The two-day confab, which bannered the theme, “Excellence Driven Area D for a Meritorious Legacy,” attracted more than two hundred delegates which also included architects from Luzon and Metro Manila.

The conference officially kicked off in the morning of October 23 with the Opening of Exhibits, with UAP National President Ana Mangalino-Ling cutting the ribbon. Architect Mangalino-Ling was also the Guest Speaker during the Opening Ceremonies and General Assembly which followed afterwards. In the afternoon, two lectures were in store for the delegates. UAP Past National President Medeliano Roldan gave an update on the implementation of RA 9266 while Architect Miguel Guerrero shared his knowledge on Green Architecture.

The highlight of the day was the Welcome Dinner and Fellowship Night held at the Malipano Island. Guest of honor for the evening was UAP Executive Vice President Michael Ang. After the formal program, the delegates, donned in their Hawaiian attire, were treated to a night of fun and enjoyment, which featured a bikini fashion show, fireworks, raffles and non-stop party.

The morning of the second day was physically challenging for the delegates as architects, representing their districts, competed with each other in the team building activities. Capping day two of the conference was the closing ceremonies, where sponsors and organizing committee members were given due recognition. Spearheading the two-day event was UAP Area D Vice President Jemma Sarol-Semaña, together with UAP District D-1 Director William Yong. It was a jointly hosted by the UAP Davao, Kadayawan-Dabaw, Mt. Apo and Davao Alpha chapters.
