Norberto Nuke was conferred as this year’s Gold Likha Awardee for Design Excellence. Ar. Nuke was the transition president of the UAP when it was founded in the 1970s. Six (6) UAP members were elevated to the College of Fellows in recognition of their outstanding track records in the profession. These were Ar. Maria Rowena Belmonte-Caingat (Diliman Chapter) and Ar. Richard Garcia (Quezon City Chapter) for Service to the Profession; Ar. Emmanuel Litonjua (Diliman Chapter) for Architectural Education; Ar. Michael Peña (Marikina Valley Chapter) for Architectural Design; Ar. Luis Reyes (Quezon City Chapter) for Construction Management; and Ar. Elsa Villanueva (Greenhills Chapter) for Architectural Interiors.

Seminars were also held as part of the convention. Among these seminars were “Heritage Conservation in Macau” with Ar. Augusto “Toti” Villalon as speaker, “Feng Shui: Colors, Shapes and Elements” by Ms. Marites Allen, and “Facade Consultancy: Bridging the Gap” by Mr. Ron Bertoli.

The Convention Exhibits (ConEx) 2009 was held in conjunction with the National Convention on April 23-26, with more 200 booths occupied by 130 suppliers of products and services related to architecture and construction. The Macau Heritage booth was adjudged Best Booth, with HCG and E Glo placing second and third, respectively.
