UAP Area A Holds Assembly

Some four hundred (400) architects converged at the Subic Holiday Villas to attend the UAP Area-A Assembly held on February 20 & 21, 2009.

The Opening Ceremonies was graced by Mr. Feliciano G. Salonga, Chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). Sen. Manny Villar, together with UAP National President Medeliano T. Roldan, Jr. opened the exhibits.

It was decided during the General Assembly that the Area-A Vice President would come alternately from the group composed of Districts A1a, A1b, A2a & A2b and the group comprised of Districts A3, A4 & A5. Current Area-A VP Mike Tomeldan declined a second term.

Ar. Edilberto Florentino gave an update on the amendments to UAP Documents 201 – 207. Engr. Jan Gary D. Lunas, Chief of the Fire Safety Enforcement Unit of the Quezon City Fire Department’s Station 4 spoke on the Amendments to the Fire Code, which took effect earlier this year. Ar. Edson G. Cabalfin, PhD candidate at the Cornell University in New York, USA spoke on Contemporary Trends in Architecture.

The Area Excellence Awards was held during the Fellowship Night, where Chapters, Chapter Presidents and members were recognized for their contributions to the UAP and their communities.

Ar. Noralita B. Cruz-Dumlao and Ar. Corazon V. Fabia-Tandoc, respectively the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Metrobank Arts and Design Excellence committee, presented the rules governing the MADE competition. They likewise invited the attendees to join the competition.

The Area-A Assembly was held under the leadership of Area-A VP Michael V. Tomeldan. Ar. Amerigo T. Dela Paz was the Assembly Chairman.
