The UAP Diliman Chapter held its 3rd General Membership Meeting last 08 November 2007 at Windows Café, Robinsons Galleria. The Business Meeting started at 7:00 pm with the invocation by Arch Ong segued by the National Anthem led by Carlo Bustos.

Chapter President Minnie Rosel called the meeting to order and gave her welcome remarks. This was followed by her reportage on the recently-held National Conference in Cebu. After the slide show of the various activities, she discussed a brief report from the National Conference which highlighted the quarterly report submittal and chapter contributions to ongoing review of documents, specifically the UAP By-Laws Amendment and the Election Manual.

She also encouraged members to participate in Area- and National-wide UAP activities. One such activity is the Area Conference in Lakeshore Pampanga to be held on Feb. 15-17, 2008. UAP Diliman aims to have 15 attendees for this event. Furthermore, invitations from the UAP National were announced, namely: a TESDA seminar on AutoCAD for trainors, and the Millennium School design competition.

Director for Continuing Professional Development Flori Sebastian invited everyone to the CPD Seminar on the Philippine Retirement Industry on 24 November 2007 at the Ortigas Home Depot. Speakers for this CPD are Ms. Maria Socorro Hernandez, Resource Director of the Philippine Retirement Inc. and Mike Guerrero, fuap, APEC Architect, Executive Director UAP Commission of Professional Practice. This follows the successful re-launch of the CPD Seminars in August (“Affordable Housing: The Look for Less”) which was attended by some 50 members, guests and students alike.

Malu Gutierrez, Chapter Director for Outreach Program gave an update on the chapter’s Outreach Projects. Simultaneous with her report is the showing of snapshots from the 18 October 2007 turn-over rites in Barangay Calaanan, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija. Members were especially awed with before-and-after shots. The photos also showed how the material donations from the suppliers were put to good use. One such photo showed the toilet showing fixtures from HCG, the evening’s featured product.

Chris Layusa announced the launching of the 2007 Chapter Book Drive Project. Instead of having an exchange of gifts, members are encouraged to bring their old books and references during the Chapter Christmas Party. The Book Drive was first held last year with Digmala Elementary School as its first beneficiary. This is continued this year with a bigger target. Beneficiaries of this year’s Book Drive are the students and teachers of five public schools in Nueva Ecija and Camiguin. Members are encouraged to tap more people into helping out this worthy cause.

Cynthia Layusa, a representative of the NGO Isla Biodiversity Conservation, Inc. (ISLA), gave a presentation on the organization and its projects in the Babuyan Group of Islands. She also gave a short discussion on its IEC campaigns and how they came to know of the plight of teachers and students in these small islands. ISLA brought to the attention of UAPD the request of public school teachers and students alike for books and other instructional materials. A public school in Camiguin is among the beneficiaries of ongoing Chapter outreach activities.

Ronnie Vasquez of HCG did a brief product presentation and distributed the latest brochures and CAD files of their products. In his closing message, he reiterated HCG’s continued and committed support to the Chapter’s endeavors, especially our outreach projects, adding that HCG salutes the Diliman Chapter “because we don’t just build houses, we also build lives…”
